Will Your Super Powers Stand the Test of Time?
Ever noticed how often super powers start with exposure to radiation or some kind of radioactive substance? Just look at Spider-Man, The Hulk, Fantastic Four, Dr Octopus and uh mm, oh yeah, Radioactive Man. How many more can you find?
These characters were created when there was a lot of excitement about discoveries in radiation. The comic strip writers let their imaginations run wild, but today we know that exposure to high levels of radiation and radioactive substances is more likely to result in death. We challenge you to develop a futuristic super power that will be believable in 50 years time!
When Batman first appeared in comics his utility belt contained the following amazing miniaturised gadgets: explosives, infra-red flash light, smoke capsule, fingerprint equipment, miniature camera, pass keys, tiny oxyacetylene torch and gas capsule. With advances in technology you can now find most of these items (OK so not the explosive items or fingerprinting equipment) on your mobile phone! Back then mobile phones didn't exist – not even the ones that look like bricks – if they had, then perhaps the tune “Nana nana nana nana nana nana nana nana, BATMAN!” might have been sung by the Crazy Frog.
